Course Objectives:


  1. To help professionals recognize mathematical development in typically developing students and students with significant cognitive disabilities.
  2. To address the components of the North Carolina Extended Content Standards as they relate to mathematical learning for students with significant cognitive disabilities.
  3. To introduce theoretical models and processes of mathematics and their relationship to students with significant cognitive disabilities.
  4. To help professionals collect and use data to organize, plan, and set goals, and use a variety of assessment data throughout the year to evaluate progress.
  5. To familiarize participants with a range of technologies, and a variety of materials and classroom modifications, that support mathematics learning and use by students with significant cognitive disabilities.
  6. To share a range of resources and strategies for continuing self-education as well as parent and professional support.
  7. Meet the Professional Teaching Standards:
    1. Teachers demonstrate leadership.
    2. Teachers establish a respectful environment for a diverse population of students.
    3. Teachers know the content they teach.
    4. Teachers facilitate learning for their students.
    5. Teachers reflect on their practice.

Continuing Education Units:


You will earn 3 Continuing Education Units at the completion of the course if you successfully complete the following requirements:
  • 100% attendance & participation in all Modules (3 Face to Face days & 1 hour webinar)
  • Complete assigned readings
  • Complete all learning tasks
  • Participate in group activities
  • Return loaned materials

Books for the course will be loaned to the participants. You must return the books on the last day. If books are not returned it will cause a delay in receiving your CEU's. Your district will be asked to replace them.
